IKF KUNTAWKuntaw is the conception of GGM Carlito A. Lanada, Sr. He received his initial training from his Grandfather Yong Iban Lanada and his father Steban Lanada in the Bicol region of Luzon island. Carlito was born in 1939 in this region and went through the war as a child passing messages for the guerrillas in the mountains. In 1958 he moved to Olongapo City outside of the Subic Naval Base and started to learn other arts, some of these arts were incorporated into Kuntaw and he systematized the art of Kuntaw, thus in 1960 he created his first organization of the Philippine Kungfu/Karate Association. By 1964 he felt it was time to use the true name of Maharlika Kuntaw. In 1966 he changed this again to Kuntaw ng Pilipinas, which is still the main organization in the Philippines for Kuntaw. In 1968 he was proclaimed the "Youngest Martial Arts Founder in the Philippines". 1979 saw the formation and inauguration of the International Kuntaw Federation (IKF), with schools worldwide.
